Description
Homer’s Odyssey is the story that started everything — the ten-year journey of Odysseus from the ruins of Troy back to Ithaca and the wife and son who have been waiting, not always patiently, for two decades. It is a poem of monsters and gods, loyalty and cunning, homesickness and violence, and it has been in continuous circulation for nearly three thousand years. There is a reason the world keeps returning to it.
This typeset uses the prose translation completed by T. E. Lawrence — better known as Lawrence of Arabia — and first published in 1932. It is one of the most distinctive translations the Odyssey has ever received: spare, muscular, and written by a man who understood long journeys and complicated homecomings from the inside. Lawrence spent years on it, working from the Greek text with the care of someone who took the poem personally. The result reads unlike any other English version, and rewards the effort of making it into a proper book.
The edition is illustrated with 24 drawings by Patten Wilson, whose work brings a quietly classical quality to the text — detailed and unhurried, well suited to a story that has always repaid close attention.
At 408 pages across 17 sections, this is a serious binding project, and a satisfying one. The typesetting has been done with that in mind: margins, spacing, and layout all considered for how the finished book will sit and read.
Homer’s words have been free for rather longer than most. What you are purchasing is the work of preparing this edition — the typesetting, the layout decisions, the 24 illustrations placed and sized with care. That is the work. The story, as always, is its own reward.

Please note that this book and it’s illustrations are in the public domain in Norway. Make sure that it is in the public domain in your country before buying.
Print on A4 paper, duplex with flip on the short edge. Printing Letter sized paper should work, you would scale it down to fit and get a bit smaller end result. I have included the whole book in one big file, and also every section separate for each version.
